The drill stops early or gives far less runtime than expected without unusual heat.
The battery stays physically latched, but the motor, LED, or both cut out and return when the tool or battery is moved through ordinary working orientation.
The chuck jaws open and close normally, but a straight compatible bit rotates or pulls out during moderate drilling or driving.
The chuck still rotates, but a new mechanical grind, knock, scrape, tight spot, or severe vibration remains with the bit removed and is not ordinary motor or brake sound.
The direction selector is centered, but the trigger still depresses enough to start the motor or the center position cannot reliably prevent activation.
The collar moves and holds a low numbered setting, but the clutch does not ratchet before a test fastener is overdriven in suitable scrap material.
A compatible V20 battery starts onto the tool rails but binds before reaching the normal seated and latched position.
With the chuck stopped and battery removed, the top selector cannot be moved fully into range 1 or range 2, even after the chuck is turned by hand to align the gears.
The direction selector moves and holds normal detents, but the chuck fails to run in one direction or rotates opposite the selected arrow.

The collar moves normally, but the clutch ratchets before a suitable fastener reaches normal depth at appropriate settings, or it audibly slips when drill mode is correctly selected.

A sound V20 battery is fully seated, the direction button is fully forward or reverse, and the tool gives no motor sound, LED response, or chuck motion. The dead state persists when the tool is held still.
