Model details
Model number: DCS578
Also known as: DCS578, DEWALT DCS578, DCS578 / DCS578B, DCS578 60V MAX Circular Saw
Symptoms
- A Zero-Degree Cut Is Not Square Through The Material
The bevel pointer is set to zero and the shoe appears flat, but a completed cut is consistently not 90 degrees to the work surface.
- The Saw Makes Grinding, Scraping, Knocking, Or Heavy Vibration With A Sound Blade
A verified straight, correctly clamped blade turns, but the saw produces destructive mechanical noise or strong vibration at no load or during a light cut.
- The Lower Blade Guard Sticks, Closes Slowly, Contacts The Blade, Or Will Not Close
The spring-loaded lower guard does not move freely through all angles/depths, fails to close promptly, rubs the blade, or needs manual help during ordinary cuts.
- The Trigger Lock-Off Button Is Stuck Or No Longer Blocks The Trigger
The lock-off cannot be pressed to allow the trigger, does not return, or lets the trigger move without a deliberate lock-off action.
- The Battery Will Not Charge Or The Charger Shows A Delay Or Problem State
The pack does not reach the charger-defined full indication, remains in a temperature
- The Cutting Depth Will Not Set, Lock, Hold, Or Reach Its Normal Range
The shoe will not slide to the desired blade exposure, the depth lever will not clamp, depth changes during cutting, or maximum depth is clearly unavailable with a correct blade.
- The Saw Or Gearcase Becomes Abnormally Hot Or Smells Hot Without Smoke Or Sparks
The housing, gearcase, battery interface, or motor area heats unusually fast or gives a hot mechanical/electrical odor, but there is no visible smoke, spark, melting, or liquid.
- The Shoe Is Bent, Cracked, Loose, Or Rocks On A Flat Work Surface
The base plate will not sit flat, visibly bends or cracks, shifts relative to the saw body, or rocks on a verified flat surface.
- The Blade Lock Or Clamping Hardware Will Not Let The Blade Be Removed Or Secured
The blade lock will not engage or release, the clamping screw will not turn correctly, or the screw and outer washer cannot secure a blade during installation.
- The Blade Stalls, Binds, Pinches, Or The Saw Kicks Back In The Cut
The blade is physically trapped or slowed by the kerf, the saw lifts or drives back toward the operator, or a restart is attempted with teeth jammed in the material.
- The Hang Hook Is Loose, Bent, Cracked, Or Will Not Stow Securely
The integrated hang hook moves unexpectedly, is visibly deformed or cracked, interferes with handling, or will not support the saw on a suitable stable structure between uses.
- No-Load Blade Speed Is Low, Surges, Or Cuts In And Out Before Touching Wood
With the blade clear of all material, the saw runs unevenly, repeatedly changes speed, or cannot reach its normal steady no-load sound.
Failure Modes
- FM-25: The Shoe Is Bent, Cracked, Loose, Or Rocks On A Flat Work Surface
The base plate will not sit flat, visibly bends or cracks, shifts relative to the saw body, or rocks on a verified flat surface.
- FM-21: A Zero-Degree Cut Is Not Square Through The Material
The bevel pointer is set to zero and the shoe appears flat, but a completed cut is consistently not 90 degrees to the work surface.
- FM-26: The Upper Guard, Housing, Main Handle, Or Auxiliary Handle Is Cracked Or Loose
A load-bearing or protective saw structure is cracked, split, displaced, loose, or exposes moving or electrical parts.
- FM-02: The Saw Starts, Then Shuts Off Abruptly Under Load
The blade reaches speed, enters the wood, and then all powered rotation stops abruptly rather than merely slowing or binding in the kerf.
- FM-19: The Saw Cuts Slowly, Feels Weak, Burns Wood, Or Leaves A Rough Cut
The blade reaches a steady normal no-load speed, but cutting is unusually slow, requires heavy feed, scorches the wood, or produces excessive splintering without a full stall.
- FM-03: Battery Runtime Is Much Shorter Than Before After A Normal Full Charge
The saw starts and cuts normally at first, but a fully indicated pack completes far fewer comparable cuts than it previously did.
- FM-15: The Blade Lock Or Clamping Hardware Will Not Let The Blade Be Removed Or Secured
The blade lock will not engage or release, the clamping screw will not turn correctly, or the screw and outer washer cannot secure a blade during installation.
- FM-23: The Cutting Depth Will Not Set, Lock, Hold, Or Reach Its Normal Range
The shoe will not slide to the desired blade exposure, the depth lever will not clamp, depth changes during cutting, or maximum depth is clearly unavailable with a correct blade.
- FM-06: The Battery Is Swollen, Leaking, Cracked, Wet, Scorched, Or Abnormally Hot
The battery shows physical damage, liquid, swelling, scorched terminals, hissing, smoke, odor, or unusual heat during charging, storage, or saw use.
- FM-07: The Trigger Lock-Off Button Is Stuck Or No Longer Blocks The Trigger
The lock-off cannot be pressed to allow the trigger, does not return, or lets the trigger move without a deliberate lock-off action.
- FM-27: The Hang Hook Is Loose, Bent, Cracked, Or Will Not Stow Securely
The integrated hang hook moves unexpectedly, is visibly deformed or cracked, interferes with handling, or will not support the saw on a suitable stable structure between uses.
- FM-17: The Saw Makes Grinding, Scraping, Knocking, Or Heavy Vibration With A Sound Blade
A verified straight, correctly clamped blade turns, but the saw produces destructive mechanical noise or strong vibration at no load or during a light cut.
