- Debris or impact damage blocks the collar
- Collar shell or detent ring is cracked or displaced
- Internal clutch spring or adjustment mechanism is jammed
- Housing or gearbox alignment is damaged

- The collar moves and holds each selected position, or the adjustment mechanism is routed to service.

- Turn the collar gently through the numbered settings and drill mode, confirming distinct stable detents without forcing it.
- If it remains stuck, skips positions, or cannot hold alignment, route the collar and internal clutch mechanism to service.
- Remove the battery before turning or inspecting the mode/torque collar.
- Dry-clean the collar seam and inspect the collar, index mark, and front housing for cracks or looseness.
