• Spindle has not reached the lock position
• Gear train is between teeth and needs slight hand rotation
• Spindle-lock or gearbox component is worn or broken
• Chuck body is loose on the spindle

1. The spindle lock holds the empty chuck for normal hand tightening and loosening, or the lock fault is proven.

1. Inspect for a loose chuck body, unusual free play, or grinding while keeping the tool unpowered.
2. If the spindle never locks or the chuck body is loose, route the chuck, spindle lock, gearbox, or spindle to service.
3. Remove the battery and test the spindle lock only with an empty chuck.
4. Turn the chuck gently through a small angle, then retry the sleeve so the internal lock can engage.
