FM-16: Pad speed rises dramatically when lifted from the work

Pad speed becomes abnormally high as soon as the running sander is lifted from the surface.

• Pad-speed control belt is worn, stretched, broken, or displaced
• Belt was routed incorrectly during service
• Bearing retainer or shoulder screw is damaged
• Pad assembly is not seated correctly

1. Free-air pad speed remains controlled after the belt route is restored.

1. Stop the tool, remove the battery, and treat the dramatic free-air speed rise as the belt signal.
2. Remove the pad by the four-screw procedure and inspect belt condition and routing.
3. Replace the proven worn belt around the shoulder screw and bearing retainer exactly as published.
