1. Tighten the single-sleeve chuck firmly by hand using the spindle lock, then pull-test the bit before power.
2. Make one moderate controlled work test; if a sound correctly tightened bit still slips, route the chuck for service or supported replacement.
3. Release the trigger, remove the battery, and remove or catch the loose bit before it can fall.
4. Clean the bit shank and chuck jaws dry, reject a bent or damaged bit, and insert a sound bit straight with all three jaws centered.
